Is your salt mixed ?
In Bible times, salt was carried by many travelers. They each had a pouch containing salt. When two travelers came into agreement on something, they’d seal the agreement with an exchange of salt. I give you a pinch of mine, you give me a pinch of yours, and we both place that salt in our pouches. It implies that for either of us to break the agreement, we’d have to find the salt that we gave one another and separate it again to take back our agreement. Or, in other words, it was a lasting agreement.
You cannot get back your salt!
God is holding to His end, are you holding on to yours to TRUST HIM? (This is your end of the bargain—TRUST and then act on that trust and OBEY)
WILL you trust Him no matter what the outcome looks like?
Exodus 13:17-18New King James Version (NKJV)
Then it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, “Lest perhaps the people change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt.” 18 So God led the people around by way of the wilderness of the Red Sea. And the children of Israel went up in orderly ranks out of the land of Egypt.
HE purposely LEAD the Israelites by way of the Red Sea. He knew He was going to open the water.
Will you trust Him when He tells you to GO where you have never been and DO what you have never done?
Are you living a holy and pure life, free from corruption and sin?
A salted life is a holy life, one where the Holy Spirit reigns supreme and you move and breath in alignment with His will.
All of the sacrificial offerings not only had to be seasoned with salt but had to be void of leaven, a type of sin, and of honey, a favorite appeasement tool offered in almost all pagan nations in their sacrifices.
Pagan deities were known to have an appetite for honey, a sweet but false substitute to the sweetness that can only come from a close relationship with Jesus. The honey was used to appease the false deities, as well as to humanize them by feeding them honey! By giving them sweet offerings, mankind thought that the deity would be more apt to respond favorably.
Today we are all addicted to sugar or “carbs” to be more inclusive. Comfort food. Bread is served before every meal at most restaurants. Jesus is the bread of life the only true and lasting source of comfort.
We want to be comfortable and fit into the world around us.
Jesus called us to stand out. A light in a dark world. Salt to a tasteless society!
V. 49…every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt.
You are the sacrifice. Are you offering yourself to Him seasoned with the salt of His Word or the comfort ( sugar/honey) of this world?
Are you bribing Jesus by offering Him honey and lip service or being busy working “for Him”, but
living like the world in attitudes, and behaviors.
Jesus cannot be bribed or convinced to do our desire by candy and honey. (The words of our lips or our good deeds) He knows our heart.
Honey is symbolic of manipulation by the worshipper towards the Heavenly Judge.
Salt on the other hand is a time proven and consistent preservative that prevents decay and corruption with enduring quality
1 Peter 1:13-16 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”[c]
Have you allowed your salt to be mixed in with the honey of this world?
The Word of God, Jesus is the pure salt we need in our life.
He made a way through repentance to purify our salt!
No condemnation, just a tugging on our heart strings.
Will you obey Him today and give Him your mixed up salt? Your worldly thoughts and lifestyles?
A salted life is a life lived in His righteousness and not according to your flesh.
You were dead, but NOW are alive.
Go forth and be salty!
I encourage you to read this article about salt covenant.
