Give Me Five

Day4

1Samuel 21

Week 35

“David went to Nob to Ahimelech the kohen. Ahimelech was afraid to meet David, so he said to him, “Why are you alone and no one with you?” David said to Ahimelech the kohen, “The king has commissioned me with a matter, and told me: ‘Let no one know anything about the mission on which I am sending you, or with what I have commissioned you.’ So, I have directed the young men to such and such a place. So now, what do you have on hand? Give me five loaves of bread or whatever can be found.””

Give Me Five

The number 5 symbolizes God's grace, goodness and favor toward humans. The word "five" is recorded 345 times in Scripture. Since five represents grace, when its multiplied by itself, it produces 25 which is 'grace upon grace' (John 1:16). The Ten Commandments contains two sets of 5 commandments. The first five commandments are related to our treatment and relationship with God with the remaining one concerned with our relationship with other humans.

What do you have?

God always uses what we have. Exodus 4:2, God asked Moses,”What do you have in your hand”. Of course we know that Moses had a staff and God enabled him to do mighty things with it.

What do you have?

Elijah asked the widow women of Zarephath what she had and asked her to use it for him first.

Elisha asked the woman who was at risk of losing her sons for debt repayment what she had and she had to use it.

Jesus asked the head of the wedding what they had, which was water and they had to fill up the vessels with it.

He also asked the disciples before the crowd of 5000 what they had and a boy gave what he had. 5 loaves and 2 fishes.

What do you have?

5 represents grace.

Have you received grace?

We all operate in the realm of our 5 physical senses. Taste, touch, smell, sight and hearing.

God asks us to move away from that and operate by faith.

What do you have?

Seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling and tasting.

5 things.

Is there a situation that you are experiencing and trying to work out by yourself?

God is saying, “Give me five.”.

Without faith it is impossible to please God.

Action Step

What can you let go of today?

Allow grace to sit with you for a moment and lift your hands to God in surrender.
