Change
Jesus asked His disciples, "Do you still not perceive or understand? Are your hearts still hard?..."
Patterns of thinking have been etched in our minds our whole life. Neural pathways are formed just like the path of an old dirt rode. Every time traveled, the road gets deeper and more prominent. What started out as a path becomes a rut and then gets wider over time. It may even be paved with asphalt making it more easily traveled and more permanent.
Our thoughts are formed by what we hear and see as we grow and develop.
What did you hear growing up?
“You’re just a stupid girl.”
“You never do anything right.”
“You are just like your mother.”
"We can't afford that."
"We don't have enough."
Or maybe you heard things like,
“You are special.”
“You can do anything.”
“ You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.”
"Jehovah Jireh, my provider."
"My God is more than enough."
We all have pathways in our brain carved out over time.
Jesus was trying to change the way the disciples thought. He was showing them how the Kingdom of God operates.
Change is not comfortable.
Change is not impossible.
Jesus already did the work on the cross making possible all the changes from the old ways to the new.
Change only happens through surrendering our will to His will.
The new pathways have been put in place by Jesus , but they won’t pave themselves.
Jesus said renew your mind as the mind of Christ. Romans 12:2
Here is an example of how you can put your faith to work and start paving your path:
Joshua 1:8
Read a passage of the Bible and write down in a notebook what The Holy Spirit puts in your heart about it.
Meditate on the word.
Memorize it.
Write it down.
Speak the word of God out loud.
Listen to Bible teachers and study the word while you learn with them.
Do Bible studies.
Change takes work!
Faith works!
