Eight

Day5 Week26 1Samuel 16 “Samuel said to Jesse, “Are these all your young men?” And he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and there he is shepherding the flock.” Then Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him, for we will not sit down until he comes here.” So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy with beautiful eyes and a good appearance. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him, for this is he.” Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord came on David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.” ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭16‬:‭11‬-‭13‬ ‭MEV‬‬ https://bible.com/bible/1171/1sa.16.11-13.MEV Cross references 2 Samuel 7:8; Psalm 78:70-71; 1 Samuel 9:17; 17:42; 1Samuel 10:1; 10:6; Eight David was the eighth son of Jesse. He wasn’t even considered by his father to be presented before the prophet. In my research, I have not found any reference that says Samuel told anyone the purpose of choosing one of Jesses’ sons. No one other than Samuel knew what he was up to and still, David wasn’t considered. The least of the least. The number eight represents new beginning and new order. The Lord chose the eighth son of Jesse to bring in a new order of rule. A humble man after God’s own heart. The scripture tells us that Samuel anointed David with oil and that the Spirit of the Lord came on David from that day forward. Samuel anointed David for a purpose, but it doesn’t say that Samuel told anyone what that purpose was at the time of the pouring. Action Step Has God given you new direction? This means that discretion is probably in order. We are not required to tell people what God has told us or directed us to do. Listen to Holy Spirit and let the anointing speak for itself.
