Drastic Measures

Day5

Week25

1Samuel 15

“Then Samuel said, “Bring me Agag the king of the Amalekites.” And Agag came to him reluctantly. But Agag said, “Surely the bitterness of death is past.” Samuel said, “As your sword has made women childless, so will your mother be childless among women.” And Samuel hacked Agag in pieces before the Lord in Gilgal. Then Samuel went to Ramah, and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul. Now Samuel did not see Saul up to the day of his death. But Samuel mourned for Saul and the Lord regretted that he had made Saul king over Israel.”

Drastic Measures

Disobedience is no joke!

Just like Samuel graphically hacked Agag in pieces, we need to hack into pieces any disobedience, rebellion, stubbornness, pride… in our life!

Samuel mourned over Saul because he had anointed him king.

God regretted making Saul King also, but God knew in advance that Saul would fail. He chose him to teach the people that He alone is their king.

God made a hard choice, but he still felt compassion much like when we have to punish our children.

Samuel was feeling like a failure. He looked at Saul’s appearance and thought he was a great choice.

Samuel anointed Saul because God told him to.

When things happen differently than how we pictured it, it can shake our faith.

Have you made a choice that you believe God directed you to make only to have it seemingly blow up in your face?

Stand firm on your faith no matter what it looks like.

God’s ways are not like ours.

Action Step

Get out the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God and hack up anything that even remotely resembles disobedience, pride, rebellion, stubbornness…

Thank God for His mercy in showing us where we need to do better!
