Day3
Week14
1Samuel 9
“So they went up into the city. And when they entered, Samuel was coming toward them to go up to the high place. Now the Lord had revealed in the ear of Samuel one day before Saul came, saying, “Tomorrow about this time I will send you a man out of the land of Benjamin. And you will anoint him to be leader over My people Israel, that he may save My people out of the hand of the Philistines. For I have looked upon My people, because their cry has come unto Me.” When Samuel saw Saul, the Lord said to him, “Here is the man of whom I spoke to you! This one will rule over My people.””
1 Samuel 9:14-17 MEV

Do You Hear
Imagine what Saul and his servant looked like walking into town after their 25 mile radius hike through the mountains.
They would have been covered in dust matted down by their sweat.
They probably stunk and no doubt they carried a worried and weary expression on their dirty faces.
Do you think Saul looked like “King” material?
Samuel had to rely on hearing from God.
Faith comes by hearing and hearing, by the Word of God. Romans 10:17
Do you hear from God?
John 10:27-28
My sheep know my voice.
We have to be tuned in to the correct frequency in order to hear.
This takes practice.
Samuel first heard God’s voice as a young boy. It took 3 times and acknowledgement from his teacher in order for him to recognize the voice as God’s.
We are blessed to have Holy Spirit living on the inside of us.
When we practice tuning in or listening through reading His Word, creating quiet time and also asking simple questions, we are learning to recognize His voice.
The more time you spend with a person, the more you recognize their voice.
It is the same with God.
He wants to speak to you.
He most likely already is speaking to you.
Are you tuned in?
Samuel most likely would not have picked dirty, dusty Saul out of the people that day if he was using his sight only.
Samuel had practiced hearing God’s voice for many years.
Are you willing to start small and practice hearing?
Action Step
Before you leave this quiet time, ask God a simple question
Example:
Should I pack 1 sandwich or 2 sandwiches in my lunch today?
Who should I pray for right now?
Which shoes should I wear?
Don’t try to reason out the answer. Just listen and obey.
You may not hear an answer until you are in the middle of doing the task you asked about.
Just keep listening and you will hear.
