Day5
Mark15:22-24
“And they brought Jesus to a place called Golgotha (which means “Place of the Skull”). They offered him wine drugged with myrrh, but he refused it. Then the soldiers nailed him to the cross. They divided his clothes and threw dice to decide who would get each piece.”

Dividing His Clothing
It was customary for the Roman soldiers to divide the belongings of the dead or soon to be dead prisoners.
Jesus tunic was woven in one piece and so could not be divided. It must have been nice or expensive for them to bother casting lots for it.
Remember, Jesus was dressed for the Passover Feast. He would have been wearing His best clothing as the head of the gathering. His attire would have been desirable to the soldiers.
The prophecy was fulfilled by this act.
I always imagined that the clothing would be bloody and why would anyone want blood stained clothing?
They wouldn’t. Jesus was stripped naked before he was flogged. This was part of the humiliation. They placed a purple robe on Him to mock Him and took Him back before Pilate. Herod placed an expensive robe on Him again to mock Him and sent Him back to Pilate.
These robes were stripped from Him before he carried the cross.
He was naked. Completely open and exposed for all to see all! Let that sink in a moment.
He was crucified on a well traveled road where everyone could see Him. This was the Roman custom and was done as a warning to others.
They took His clothes.
He was naked and exposed because of us.
We don’t have to bare that shame.
We are clothed in His righteousness!
Why are we carrying shame?
Leave the old garments of sin and the shame that goes with it at the cross and put on your new ones!
If anyone tells you, “You should be ashamed of yourself!”, answer back, “No I shouldn’t, Jesus took that for me.”
“Instead of shame and dishonor, you will enjoy a double share of honor. You will possess a double portion of prosperity in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.”
Isaiah 61:7 NLT
