Day4

Week15

1Samuel 10

““Then you will go forward from there, and you will come to the plain of Tabor. And there you will meet three men going up to God to Bethel: one carrying three kids, another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine. And they will greet you and give you two loaves of bread, which you will receive from their hands. “After that you will come to the hill of God, where the garrison of the Philistines is. And when you come there to the city, you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place with a harp, a tambourine, a flute, and a lyre before them. And they will prophesy.”

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭10‬:‭3‬-‭5‬ ‭MEV‬‬

Directions

Are you good with directions?

I’m not. Thank You God for GPS!

It seems like in our reading today, there were a lot of directions.

I wonder if Saul wrote anything down.

Think about his state of mind. He was just informed that he would be the leader of a nation.

I’m sure he was filled with questions. After all he wasn’t able to locate his father’s donkeys, how was he supposed to lead a nation?

In verse 3 Samuel prophesied about 3 men, 3 goats, 3 loaves and a bottle of wine?

The number 3 in the Bible represents harmony, completeness, wholeness and perfection.

Numbers held great significance in the Hebrew culture.

I’m sure Saul recognized the number 3 repeating in the directions. We know from the previous parts of our story that Saul certainly didn’t think of himself as complete, perfect or even in harmony.

Saul was to receive only 2 of the loaves.

The Bible doesn’t say what Saul was to do with them. He was not instructed to offer them as sacrifice ( thanksgiving, peace or fellowship offerings).

I think he was given 1 each as provision for him and his servant.

Have you ever been overwhelmed by what you felt God was instructing you to do?

God had already lined everything up in advance, even the food for his servant and himself.

Listen carefully for your directions and be confident that God has already worked everything out.

All we have to do is trust Him and walk in His complete, whole, and perfect peace. 3

Action Step

Are you overwhelmed?

Do you find it hard to drown out the noise of your busy life?

Quiet yourself and focus on 3,

Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Imagine that you are surrounded by 3 people.

1 named Harmony,
