Did You Ask

Day4

Week31

2 Samuel

“Now there was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David called upon the Lord. The Lord said, “There is blood guilt upon Saul and upon his house because he put the Gibeonites to death.” So the king summoned the Gibeonites and spoke to them. Now the Gibeonites were not from the Israelites. Instead they were a remnant of the Amorites. Although the Israelites had made a pact with them, Saul attempted to destroy them in his zeal for the people of Israel and Judah. David said to the Gibeonites, “What must I do for you, and with what may I appease you that you may bless the inheritance of the Lord?””

Did You Ask

Three years is a long time to suffer. Sometimes hardship or illness, even pain can sneak up on us. One never knows how long a struggle will last. Time goes on and before you know it, it’s been three years, right?

Did you ask God for help at the beginning of your struggle? Maybe you did, but in our story today we find David three years in and it is only recorded that he sought help from the Lord after three years of the famine.

One of the instructions of Jesus was to…ask anything in my name and…

Have you ever thought about your situation, even pondered a solution and worried about it, but never actually got around to praying?

God is sovereign. Let me ask you this; Is God in control here on earth?

If you answered yes, then I challenge you to read Genesis 1:26-30 and Genesis 3.

God said, “Let them(mankind) have dominion over everything on earth.” (Paraphrase)

Adam’s decision to sin was a willful surrender to the devil and in doing so, he gave his (mankind’s) dominion over to the devil.

Jesus taught his disciples to pray asking that His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. If He was in control of earth already, then why would He need us to ask for that in prayer?

We need to ask God to intervene. He has to be invited in order to legally interfere.

If we ask, He will answer. If we don’t ask He has no legal right to interfere.

Did you ask?

Action Step

How long has it been since you asked for God’s help in Jesus name?

Who among you by taking thought can add one cubit to his stature?

MATTHEW 6:27 MEV

What sort of thoughts are you allowing to take up space in your mind?

Make a list of what's bothering you right now, and talk to God about what's on that list.
