Week 4
Day2
P.R.A.Y.
Y is for yearning
This is our fourth and final week taking a deep dive into prayer.
1 Peter 2:2
And yearn like newborn infants for pure, spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up to salvation
Cross references
Hosea 6:3
Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord; his going out is sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.”
Acts 17:11
Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.
Hosea 10:12
Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap steadfast love; break up your fallow ground, for it is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come and rain righteousness upon you.
Develop
In order to develop a stronger yearning for God, you simply need to lean in to Him.
The above verses use the following words:
yearn, press on, eager, sow and seek.
These words all imply action on our part.
Maybe you don’t feel a yearning for the things of God. It may seem like an obligation or chore to take time out to pray, listen and read God’s Word.
This is okay. It is natural or an outward response.
Yearning happens on the inside. It is a spiritual thing. Human nature or sin nature wants to reject God.
A simple way to get started is to ask God to give you a desire for more of Him.
Some might say, “I don’t even have a desire to ask.”
That’s okay too. God sees where you are. If that is you, then pray that God would give you a desire to desire spiritual things and a desire to desire a closer walk with Him.
Action Step:
Do a self audit.
Where are you?
Do you want more out of your life?
Is there something missing?
Do you have a desire to desire more of God?
Pray:
Be honest with God and ask Him to meet you where you are.
He is one breath away.
