Day5
1Samuel 24
Week 39
“As the proverb of the ancients says, ‘From the wicked comes forth wickedness,’ but my hand will not be against you. “After whom has the king of Israel come out? After whom are you pursuing? After a dead dog? A single flea? May the Lord be judge, and decide between me and you. And may He see and plead my case, and deliver me out of your hand.” When David finished speaking these words to Saul, Saul said, “Is this your voice, my son David?” And Saul lifted up his voice and wept. And he said to David, “You are more righteous than I. For you have rewarded me with good, while I have rewarded you with evil. And you have shown today that you have dealt well with me, when the Lord delivered me into your hand and you did not kill me. For if a man finds his enemy, will he let him safely go away? Therefore may the Lord reward you well for what you have done for me this day. Now, listen, I know that you will surely be king and that the kingdom of Israel will be established in your hand. Therefore swear to me now by the Lord that you will not cut off my descendants after me and that you will not destroy my name out of my father’s household.” So David swore to Saul and Saul went home. But David and his men went up to the stronghold.”

Descendants
In Bible times and even now in eastern cultures, the people were and are focused on their descendants. Every decision they make is weighed against how it will affect their descendants.
How often did you pray for your children before you became a parent?
What about your grandchildren before you became a grandparent?
We live in a culture that is focused on right now.
Most people are living paycheck to paycheck and therefore planning for the future seems out of reach.
The Bible teaches us to set our mind on things above and that we can endure difficulties by focusing on the joy set before us.
Jesus is coming back soon. Soon is in the future, but it could be only one second away.
What if our descendants are left behind?
Are we leaving them a spiritual inheritance to cling to so that they can find their way to Jesus and an eternity with us and with God?
Action Step
Pray for your descendants. Those children who are not yet born as well as your children and grandchildren who are here now.
Make sure you have a physical copy of the Bible in your home and let them see you read it.
Keeping a physical journal is a great way to leave a legacy behind as well. I like to write down my thoughts during my prayer time and also record the things I learn while studying God’s Word.
Your descendants most likely won’t be able to access your phone or tablet or even your computer, so writing is still the best option to pass down your knowledge.
