Dagon it!
Have you ever uttered this curse or heard someone else say it?
I believe that it originated as a curse meaning to become like the god, “Dagon”and be rendered useless without hands, head or legs. A powerless stump.
Most who use it in modern times would admit that it just flows out of their mouth, unconsciously in place of more fowl language in a moment of anger.
The Israelites had disobeyed God by moving the Ark of the Covenant without asking God.
They faced awful consequences.
Have you ever faced awful consequences directly because of your choices?
God did not forsake them in His Sovereign mercy.
God began His attack from behind enemy lines.
God uses the things that the enemy means for evil and He works it out for our good!
Obedience is better than sacrifice.
But, if you find yourself on the other side of obedience, simply repent and watch what God will do!
He is faithful even when we are not!
The next time you hear the curse, “Dagon it!”, use it as an opportunity to tell this story about the awesome power of your faithful God!
Action Step
Does your mouth need some cleansing?
Ask Holy Spirit to remind you of this story every time you utter a “potty word” or other “curse word”.
Take the opportunity to laugh at God’s sense of humor in this story and turn your irritability or anger into joy
