Count The Cost

Muster:

to produce or encourage something such as an emotion or support:

assemble (troops), especially for inspection or in preparation for battle.

Joab’s troops were assembled, counted and encouraged.

It was important to count the cost of the battle. The only way to know who won was by counting how many remained alive and how many died.

In this battle, the winner was obvious except that they were not fighting enemies of God, but their own people in a civil war.

The men were encouraged with rest and sustenance, but most of all in the fact that they were headed home and no longer expected to fight their relatives at least for the moment.

We are also encouraged to count the cost of following Jesus. Luke 14:28-30.

Have you mustered your life lately?

Gathered your thoughts and actions for inspection?

Action Step

Before diving into your day, count the cost?

Ask Holy Spirit what His plan is for you today?

Let Jesus muster you before you head out the door.
