Call A Truce

Day2

Week4

2 Samuel

”Abner called to Joab, “Must the sword consume forever? Do you not understand that a bitter taste will result in the end? How long will you refuse to command the people to withdraw from chasing their brothers?” Joab responded, “As God lives, I assure you that if you had not said this, the people would have each pursued his brother throughout the night.” So Joab blew a trumpet, and all the people stood still. They pursued Israel no longer, nor did they continue to fight anymore.“

‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭2‬:‭26‬-‭28‬ ‭MEV‬‬

Call A Truce

Do you remember playing tag or hide and seek as a child?

It was fun when you were winning, but on the other hand, if not you may have said,”Time out!”

Isn’t it interesting that Abner, the general that so casually started all the bloodshed in the morning with a “playful” contest is now using reason to, in essence, beg for mercy.

Civil war is always tragic and Abners’ plea to call a truce is wise, but what if the shoe were on the other foot?

”The start of an argument is like a small leak in a dam. Stop it before a big fight breaks out.“

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭17‬:‭14‬ ‭ERV‬‬

Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit proceeds a fall. Proverbs 16:18 MEV

Is there someone in your life who you have a disagreement with?

Call a truce and make peace.

Action Step

Time out!

Be quiet with the Lord for a few moments.

Slow down and take a few deep cleansing breaths.

Listen to the sounds around you.

What do you hear?

Praise God for whatever comes to your mind.
