Day5

Week28

2 Samuel

“Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjamite who was from Bahurim, hastened to go down with the men of Judah to meet King David. With him were a thousand men from Benjamin. And Ziba, the servant of the house of Saul, with his fifteen sons and twenty servants, rushed down to the Jordan before the king. They crossed the ford to bring the household of the king across and to do what was pleasing in his eyes. Shimei the son of Gera fell before the king as he was crossing the Jordan, and he said to the king, “Do not regard me as guilty, my Lord, or remember how your servant went astray the day when my Lord the king went out from Jerusalem. May the king not take it to heart. For your servant knows that I have sinned. Therefore, behold, I have come this day, first from all of the house of Joseph, to go down to meet my Lord the king.””

Be Bold

The main character in today’s lesson is Shimei. If you remember, he is the man who cursed David and threw stones at him and his men while he was fleeing from Absalom a few chapters earlier in the story.

Now with David returning as king, we find Shimei to be bold in his act of repentance. He does it in haste and goes all out by prostrating himself before David at the Jordan river bank in front of everyone.

It is not easy to be bold when asking for forgiveness.

Have you ever been in a position where you needed to ask forgiveness in front of others?

Action Step

Search your heart and memory. Remember a time when you needed forgiveness.

Think about how you felt when you humbled yourself and asked.

God, I am so thankful that You don't hold me to a standard of perfection. When I make a mistake, You accept and torgive me.

You never give up on me—thank You.

Today, I repent of my sins. I want to live a life that honors You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
