Week 3
Day5
P.R.A.Y.
A is for Adjustment
This is our third week taking a deep dive into prayer.
Romans 12:19-21
19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” 20 To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Avenger
I can’t help seeing or hearing that word without thinking of the popular super hero movie series.
The movie depicts mere humans as weak and helpless, but good hearted, needing an avenger to protect them from evil.
In the final episode of the series (spoiler alert) one avenger gives his life for all.
This is a good parallel to Christ Jesus giving His life for all humanity, however the character of Jesus and the instructions for a Christ follower are very different.
Christ is selfless. He is full of love and compassion for all, even His enemy.
Remember that we were once His enemy. We were full of evil(sin) in our hearts.
He lived out the above verses with us showering us with His love and winning us over by redemption at the cross and resurrection.
We are not capable on our own to make this adjustment to become selfless.
When we are wronged, we want revenge.
Seeking Revenge is evil. This leads us down a road to destruction.
Humility is a major adjustment and Jesus helps us to make it.
Our instructions are to do good to those who wrong us.
Prayer or communion with God is vital for us to humble ourselves , surrender and let go of anger and allow Holy Spirit to make adjustments.
Remember to listen and be quick to obey.
Action Step:
Pray and ask Holy Spirit to help you make the needed adjustments.
