Day1
Mark 14:22-25
“As they were dining, Jesus took the bread and blessed it, and broke it, and gave it to his disciples. He said to them, “Receive this; it is my body.” Then taking the cup of wine and giving thanks to the Father, he declared the new covenant with them. And as each one drank from the cup, he said to them, “This is my blood, which seals the new covenant poured out for many. I tell you the truth, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the day comes when we drink it together in the kingdom feast of my Father.””

As they were eating
They were eating the Passover meal, which usually would last through the night. Jesus as the man of the house or head of the gathering, would have just recounted the beautiful story of the exodus from Egypt. This story is the shadow of the coming of messiah, the Passover lamb. As the story is retold the Passover plate in the center of the table is experienced by each guest. The bitter herbs and the red horseradish are dipped into to remember the suffering, tears and slavery that they were delivered from. This is where Judas dips with Jesus and the betrayal is foretold.
The second cup is sprinkled on each plate as the plagues of Egypt are remembered. 10 drops of blood for 10 plagues.
The meal is now served.
After the meal before the third cup of wine , The Cup of Redemption,
( this is where the celebration is at in our scripture today), Jesus says a blessing and breaks the bread. This is not just any bread. This is the third loaf of bread for the meal. This loaf was hidden or
”buried” at the beginning of the feast after the first cup of wine. This loaf is the center loaf and must be redeemed in silver. (Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver)
Before drinking the cup of redemption the bread is broken and the blessing given. Not just any blessing. Jesus said the traditional Passover blessing for this part of the meal.
“Blessed art Thou, O Lord our God, King of the universe, Who bringest forth bread from the earth.”
Then He said, “This bread is my body.”
He broke off pieces of that third loaf and gave it to each of them.
Then the blessing before the third cup is “Blessed art Thou, O Lord our God, King of the universe, Creator of the fruit of the vine.”
Then Jesus said, “ drink of it, all of you. For this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”
