What to say?
I love that Peter very often spoke out and had no idea of what was truly going on.
Does that sound familiar to any of you?
I think more often than we want to admit, we open our mouth and out comes a ridiculous opinion or well meaning blurb. Before we can think it through, an offense happens.
Like Peter, we often speak just to interrupt the awkward silence, or to show what great ideas we have…
The thing that is not very often hi lighted about Peter, is that he received the rebuke or correction without rebellion. Jesus said, "Get behind me Satan!" Peter did not say a word. I'm not sure I would have received that rebuke so graciously. How about you?
As you follow Peter’s story, I never read where he sassed back at Jesus or left pouting. Peter stayed. Even at the Lord’s supper Peter spoke up and made a declaration that he would die if he had to. He disagreed with what Jesus had foretold, but He respectfully stayed at the table.
We can learn a-lot from Peter’s example. Not the example of being loose lipped, but the example of a repentant heart and a heart to receive correction.
We don’t always know what to say and that’s okay.
Sometimes silence is our best friend.
Listen…. The Holy Spirit will tell you what to say.
