The hardness of your heart.
God loves His children. He wants what is best for them.
In Biblical times, women did not have value in the eyes of society.
After the fall of mankind in the garden, sin ruled in the hearts of mankind. Since Eve was deceived by Satan, consequently men lost respect for women. Women became thought of as property, no longer as a special gift from God.
In the days of Moses, men were marrying women and then making them leave their house only to marry another women.
A woman was not allowed to own property, so she was left poor. Also since she was no longer a virgin she was disgraced and unwanted. The men of that time were also changing their mind and trying to remarry the women they had put out.
Moses wrote a law allowing for a man to write a certificate of divorce as a protection for women. Once the divorce was given, the man could not change his mind and take back his former wife. This hopefully would cause the man to think twice before putting her out. This certificate allowed women to honorably remarry and be cared for.
God loves His daughters!
Do not misunderstand me. God loves men also, but in those times it was the daughters that needed defending.
Jesus was being tested in these passages by the Pharisees ( the male leaders of the church).
In v. 8 Jesus says, “and the two shall be one flesh.”
Remember the salt covenant that we talked about on Day1?
Once you mix your salt with another’s, they can not be separated and that was and is God’s intention for marriage.
Jesus’ disciples asked Him privately again about this. He answered telling them that if they remarry, essentially they are committing adultery. Again, the salt can not be separated.
1 Corinthians 7:11 Paul tells us that according to God, do not permit either husband nor wife to divorce, but if they do then let them both remain unmarried.
Adultery, abuse and abandonment are the only allowances in the Bible for divorce.
Our God is a God of healing and restoration!
Trust your marriage to Him and you will see miraculous things!
Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
