Day5
Week2
2 Samuel
”O daughters of Israel, weep over Saul, who clothed you in scarlet and jewels, who adorned your garments with gold jewelry. How the mighty ones have fallen in the midst of battle! Jonathan was slain on your high places. I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan; you were very dear to me; your love was more remarkable than the love of women. How the mighty have fallen, and the weapons of war have perished.“
2 Samuel 1:24-27 MEV

A Pattern
In David’s lament he says three times, “How the mighty have fallen.” This is a pattern worth noting.
Every time something is repeated in scripture it is a clue that it is important.
First we need to look at “Who” has fallen?
The mighty.
In David’s life, the so called,“mighty” falling has been a pattern.
We see this with the bear and the lion as a shepherd boy and then the giant called Goliath. The pattern continues with his many victories in battle over mighty enemies of Israel.
This time David laments the mighty falling because he understands that it didn’t have to be this way.
Saul lifted himself up and depended upon his own strength. He refused to surrender to God.
”Yahweh supports and strengthens the humble, but the ungodly will be brought down to the dust.“
Psalms 147:6 TPT
”A man’s pride will bring him low, but honor will uphold the humble in spirit.“
Proverbs 29:23 MEV
The lesson from “The Song of the Bow” is humility and dependence upon God.
Are you controlled by your emotions?
That was Saul’s biggest downfall. He allowed self-doubt, jealousy, envy, pride, anger and rage, just to name a few, to get the best of him rather than simply surrendering all to God.
Simple doesn’t mean easy.
We all struggle with our emotions.
God created them and he wants us to feel them, but we are not to follow them. They make terrible leaders!
Action Step
Ask God to unravel you before Him today.
Take a deep breath and listen carefully for His voice as you read these verses.
”Let joy be your continual feast. Make your life a prayer. And in the midst of everything be always giving thanks, for this is God’s perfect plan for you in Christ Jesus.“
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 TPT
Read this again slowly. What thoughts and ideas come to your mind?
Spend a few moments processing how you can apply this to your life.
