Day5
Week 18
Hebrews 13
”Don’t forget the example of your spiritual leaders who have spoken God’s messages to you, take a close look at how their lives ended, and then follow their walk of faith. Jesus, the Anointed One, is always the same—yesterday, today, and forever. So don’t let anyone lead you astray with all sorts of novel and exotic teachings. It is more beautiful to feast on grace and be inwardly strengthened than to be obsessed with dietary rules which in themselves have no lasting benefit.“

A New Diet
How many times have you been bombarded with that slogan?
We are being warned here in the text to be careful not to be fooled by the next new thing.
A new diet to consider that is different than what we put in our mouths is our spiritual diet or what we put in our hearts.
The people of this time were getting carried away with whether to eat the foods sacrificed to idols or not.
They were missing the point and being swallowed up by foolish teachings that were not of God.
We need a constant diet of God’s Word, as well as to drink plenty of water by way of spending time in His presence.
This new diet is one of grace and we can feast anytime. Kind of like an all you can eat buffet only you can never be overstuffed.
If our hearts are filled up with comfort and ease we may become spiritually malnourished and unaware we need more of Him.
This passage reminds me of the child who fills up on candy before dinner.
Be careful what you are filling up on…news, entertainment, worry, mindless tv, a comfortable life….
Pull up a seat at His table and dine today.
Even if you don’t feel hungry or thirsty, your Heavenly Father knows exactly what you need.
Action Step
Ask God to show you what candy you are filling up on.
Write down whatever comes to mind and give it to Him.
Spend a few moments dining at His table before you leave this space.
