Day2
1Samuel 25
Week 42
“When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, “Blessed is the Lord, who has defended the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and has kept His servant from evil. For the Lord has returned the wickedness of Nabal upon his own head.” And David sent and spoke with Abigail, to take her as his wife. When the servants of David came to Abigail at Carmel, they spoke to her, saying, “David has sent us to you to take you as his wife.” She arose, and bowed herself on her face to the ground, and said, “Here is your handmaid, a servant to wash the feet of the servants of my Lord.” Abigail hurriedly arose and rode on a donkey with her five young women who attended her. And she went after the messengers of David and became his wife.”

A Humble Character
I seem to struggle with this a lot. Anyone else?
Most of us do not naturally have a humble character.
Just when I think I have learned something about the subject, I am given an opportunity to show it and I fail often. What makes it worse is that the only way to make things right is to eat some humble pie.
I don’t know about you, but I am not a big fan of pie, especially that flavor.
Abigail initially acted out of necessity. She knew her family was in danger due to her husbands foolishness.
Her response to David’s proposal though, was pure humility. I mean, are you willing to wash your husbands feet? Much less his servants or his friends feet?
Abigail did not need rescued after her husbands death. Her wisdom alone speaks for itself. She did not have to humble herself and marry David. She chose to give up her comfortable life to join David in hiding in the dessert.
She knew he would one day be king, but it was not a leisurely road to get there and yet a humble character prevailed.

God is merciful!
As you process today’s lesson, give yourself permission to sit with questions you may not have answers for yet.
God not only gives grace to the humble, but He gives us grace to be humble.
