Day5
1 Samuel 18
Week31
“The dancing women sang and said, “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.” Saul became very angry, and this saying was displeasing to him. Therefore he said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, but to me they have ascribed thousands. Now what remains for him to have but the kingdom?” So Saul was suspicious of David from that day and forward.”

A Good Name
Jesus warned in Luke 6:26 to beware when all men speak well of you…
Does that mean we should want people to say bad things about us?
No.
Solomon said in Proverbs 22:1, a good name is to be chosen over riches; and in Ecclesiastes 7:1 a good name is better than precious ointment.
Jesus is referring to popularity with people who are willing to sacrifice principles and character for popularity.
Having the approval of the crowd can be dangerous as David found out.
David did not seek popularity or A Good Name, but because of his heroic efforts it found him and caused great trouble.
Popularity is not the goal.
Pleasing God is.
It is impossible to please God without faith.
Saul relied on his own strength and wisdom and it was to his own demise.
David relied on His God and even though he faced many challenges, God remained faithful and was the rewarder of David who diligently sought Him.
Action Step
Are you feeling like Saul today, relying on your own wisdom and strength?
Seek God and begin to trust Him and loosen your grip.
He is faithful!
