Day1
1Samuel 26
Week 43
“David said, “As the Lord lives, the Lord will strike him, or his day will come to die, or he will go down into battle and perish. The Lord forbid that I should stretch out my hand against the Lord’s anointed, but now please take the spear that is at his head and the jug of water, and let us go.” So David took the spear and the jug of water from Saul’s head and they went away. No one saw, no one knew, and no one awoke, for they were all asleep, because a deep sleep from the Lord had fallen upon them.”

A Deep Sleep
Imagine David and Abishai walking and talking right in the midst of the enemy camp. Not one soldier moved or stirred.
I could never even bring the groceries in the house from the car without waking my young daughter when she had fallen asleep on the ride home.
A deep sleep from the Lord is a different kind of sleep. When God is working on your behalf, there is no need to worry or fret. He created the universe and everything in it is subject to Him.
David wasn’t perfect. He was a man just like us. The biggest difference between him and us is that he spent a lot of time in conversation with God. He praised God in good times and in bad times. He poured out his heart to God. He let it all hang out before God.
We can do that, too. In fact, it is much easier for us because Jesus sent us Holy Spirit to live in us. We can feel His presence. David could not.
As we practice being quiet before God, it becomes easier to hear Him. As we practice praising Him when our hearts are in distress and we are empty or afraid, it becomes easier to enter into His presence.
You will find a deep sleep is available to us all when we surrender our will, our dreams, our concerns, our control…. Over to Him. A deep sleep in the form of a peace that passes all understanding will fall on each of us as we practice seeking His presence.
