A Clue

Day1

Mark14:50-52

“At that point all of his disciples ran away and abandoned him. There was a young man there following Jesus, wearing only a linen sheet wrapped around him. They tried to arrest him also, but he slipped from their grasp and ran off naked, leaving his linen cloth in their hands.”

A clue

Then they all deserted Him and fled.

Did you ever wonder why the next two verses are included?

It seems unimportant. Or is it?

It is only included in Marks Gospel.

Some say that the young man was Mark.

I think it is meant as a clue to teach us to think differently, outside the box of tradition.

God’s ways are not our ways.

Regardless of who it was, the fact is that there were more followers of Jesus than the 12 disciples. He had many disciples including women and most likely there were more than the 12 at the Passover meal in the large upper room that night including the women.

Why was it so difficult for the soldiers to figure out who Jesus was to arrest Him if there were only 12 people and Jesus there?

Why was it difficult for the religious leaders to find Him all the time? He traveled with a lot of people.

He was especially close to the twelve, but there were many others who supported Him financially and otherwise.

There are clues like this throughout the gospel accounts.

Is this important to understand?

Changing the way we think and taking a second and third look at the traditional telling of the Passion of Christ helps us understand that we are important to God.

The twelve disciples were chosen to be up close and personal, but they were not the only ones that Jesus chose. He chose you and me also.

I encourage you to find more clues and pray for the Holy Spirit to help you see with new eyes.
