A Band Of Misfits

Day5

1Samuel 21

Week 36

“David departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. And when his brothers and all his father’s house heard it, they went down to him there. There gathered to him every one that was in distress, and every one in debt, and every one that was discontented. So he became captain over them. Now there were with him about four hundred men. Then David went from there to Mizpah of Moab. And he said to the king of Moab, “Please let my father and my mother come forth and be with you until I know what God will do for me.” He brought them before the king of Moab, and they lived with him all the while that David was in the stronghold. The prophet Gad said to David, “Do not remain in the stronghold. Go to the land of Judah.” So David went and came to the forest of Hereth.”

A Band Of Misfits

Do you feel “less than”today?

Does your friend group resemble a band of misfits?

You are in good company!

Have you ever noticed that God takes the foolish, the ordinary or the weak and uses them for His glory?

David was running for his life from the king and who does he end up with as his followers, his army?

The distressed, those in debt and the discontented.

Sounds like a band of misfits, right?

Does that sound like your friend group?

God doesn’t need perfect, powerful or popular people. ( not that he doesn’t love them or use them. ) He is looking for those who will humble themselves before him and allow Him to direct their lives.

Anyone want to sign up for the Lord’s army?

Are you willing and obedient?

Action Step

Sometimes we are willing, but not obedient. Maybe we procrastinate or become distracted.

Sometimes we are obedient, but not willing. Maybe we do it, but with a bad attitude or begrudgingly not wholeheartedly.

Ask God to search your heart.

Lord, help me get my willing lined up with my obedience. Thank You that You are faithful and merciful to forgive me when I get sidetracked. Help me to do better and clearly see the changes I need to make and impress me to do it. In Jesus name Amen.
