Week 2
Day1
P.R.A.Y.
R is for Reliance
This is our second week taking a deep dive into prayer.
Reliance
dependence on or trust in someone or something.
a person or thing on which someone depends
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 MEV
RELY on God. He is faithful to His word and we are in covenant with Him. He loves you. Put your trust in Him. Build up your faith by praying in the Holy Spirit until you are fully persuaded that you can rely on God. Let Him become your only source!
Most of us struggle with this big challenge, “not leaning to our own understanding.”
I know for me that is certainly true.
We seem to have an intellectual understanding that God’s ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55), but in practical application we still rely on our own understanding.
Why is that?
Insecurity.
What?! “I’m not insecure!” You may protest, but as I am finding out for myself the reality of the matter is that self reliance or controlling behavior, manipulating circumstances, etc. are all rooted in insecurity.
It is impossible to trust when there is insecurity.
What can we do to become fully persuaded to act on God’s promises?
The only way is to be willing to take the mask off.
Allow Holy Spirit to get to the root of the matter.
How? What does that look like?
Ask Him to remind you of lies that were spoken over you as a child or throughout your life.
Some of them will surface quickly because you have been rehearsing them in your mind for years. You know, the negative things you say to yourself.
Others will take allowing some deep digging to expose.
Action Steps:
Ask Holy Spirit to dig and expose to the light the lie’s that are hiding inside you. The lies from hurtful words that were spoken over you that helped mold and shape your identity.
Ask for God’s grace to help you repair the ground of your identity with the truth found in His Word. The truth found in relationship with Jesus.
Write down each lie.
Google search for a scripture that speaks truth about that lie.
For example:
Lie
“You can’t do anything right! You’re just a stupid girl!” This was shouted at me many times by my grandfather.
Truth
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13
He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.” Mark 5:34
But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:16b
Speak these truths over yourself and let your faith be built up.
